  • One out of three solar power systems installed in the EU is made in Austria

    8. August 2008 Solar energy is not only used intensively in Austria , but solar thermal systems have also turned into a successful export product in recent years. Since 2002, exports have tripled, according to a news release from Solar Austria, the association of Austrian manufacturers in the field of solar energy. One out of three solar power systems installed in the EU is made in Austria . Austrian manufacturers are market leaders in Germany , Spain , France and Italy . Austrian solar technology can be found on the roof of the Olympic indoor swimming pool in Beijing and the office building of the European Commission in Brussels .
    The economic output of this sector (production, trade and installation of solar thermal systems) with 6500 employees amounted to EUR 385 million in 2007. In recent years, more than EUR 100 million have been invested in the expansion of production and marketing capacities by Austrian solar technology manufacturers.
    As far as the use of solar energy is concerned, Austria ranks second within the EU. According to an EU survey in 2006, 231 kilowatt of thermal solar energy were installed per 1000 inhabitants. Only Cyprus is making even more intensive use of solar energy than Austria .
    In 2007, 2.7 million square meters of solar collectors with an output of 1900 Megawatt were set up in the EU. In Austria , 281.000 square meters were installed, according to the news release of Austria Solar.

    The Austrian office will be led by Mr. Karl Pfister, Head of European Sales at modu. Before joining modu, Mr. Pfister was the Director Telecommunications at Samsung Electronics CEE for four years, and prior to that he held senior management positions at Nokia in the US, Finland, and Austria. Mr. Pfister has more than 20 years experience in senior management, sales, and business development at leading global companies such as Samsung, Nokia, Hewlett-Packard, Sony, and Microsoft.

    Mr. Pfister said: “modu has taken the mobile handset market by storm since its launch earlier this year, thanks to its unique and disruptive approach. Mobile network operators instantly understand and are attracted to the modu proposition. I have worked in sales for over two decades and this is the first time that I have come across such a genuinely innovative concept. I am delighted to be part of this exciting mobile revolution.”
