According to the latest business survey by the "BA-CA Purchasing Managers Index (PMI)", the Austrian economy will continue to grow for local companies, despite a world-wide downturn. The PMI in September showed a surprising rise from 54.5 to 55.4 (values over 50 show growth) and achieved the highest levels since March 2007. After a slowdown in industry growth in the first half year, at the beginning of autumn production recovered, bucking world-wide trends. The index of orders received rose from 52.7 to 53.8, with domestic orders showing higher increases than export orders. However, the orders received from abroad still showed a slight rise - from 51.2 to 52.7. One reason for the positive developments is that Austria has exceeded the EU average growth rates since 2003.
