efko: export share doubles in 2009 3. June 2010

Upper Austrian company efko processes around 100,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetables every year. The amount of produce from Austria's most important pickle manufacturer to go abroad is increasing steadily.

If you're in an Austrian store looking for pickled vegetables, you certainly can't miss the products from efko Frischfrucht- und Delikatessen GesmbH . But the success of the company based in Eferding (Upper Austria) is not restricted to just Austria: exports have developed into a key pillar of the manufacturer's revenue. Last year one third of efko's turnover was generated abroad, amounting to EUR 37.3 million. This means that the export share increased twofold within a single year. Overall, 2009 saw revenue rise by 16%.

Efko has contracts with around 160 Upper Austrian vegetable growers, offering 190 different types of fruit and vegetable. With additional sites in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic, the company processes around 100,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetables every year, generating turnover of EUR 120 million in 2009.
